Hearts in Action: BAYDA Youth Congress Day of Service

BAYDA Youth Congress – A Day of Service

The campus of The Salvation Army Orlando Area Command came alive with energy, purpose, and compassion as more than 100 youth from the BAYDA Youth Congress stepped onto the grounds ready to serve. With sleeves rolled up and hearts open, these young volunteers dedicated their time, creativity, and enthusiasm to projects designed not only to beautify spaces, but also to uplift the spirit of the community we serve.

Throughout the day, the youth spread out across multiple service sites, each one reflecting a unique way of “doing the most good.” On campus, they planted, mulched, and refreshed the grounds—transforming walkways and green spaces into a welcoming environment for the individuals and families who turn to The Salvation Army for hope and support. They also tended to Lake Dot, a serene landmark that has become a place of calm, prayer, and reflection for many program participants and visitors. Their care ensured that this special space continues to provide peace for those who need it most.

The service didn’t stop there. In partnership with our friends at Orlando Day Nursery, these young leaders carried their compassion beyond our campus walls. They helped meet the immediate needs of children and families through hands-on projects, showing that service is not confined to one location, but woven into every corner of our community. Their teamwork and dedication reflected the essence of the Youth Congress, faith in action, service with joy, and leadership rooted in compassion.

By the close of the day, the transformation was both visible and intangible. Landscapes looked brighter, community spaces felt renewed, and the atmosphere was filled with encouragement and hope. Even more powerful was the change in the youth themselves. Many left with a deeper understanding of the importance of service, inspired by the difference their hands and hearts could make in just one day.

The BAYDA Youth Congress reminded us that the next generation is not waiting for tomorrow to lead, they are leading today. Their actions painted a picture of what our future can look like when guided by selflessness, compassion, and unity. Truly, the future is bright when it’s shaped by young people committed to serving others.
